'Estados Unidos: el pais donde La libertad es una estatua.
United States: the country where Liberty is a statue!'
- Nicanor Parra, Artefactos, 1972
I'm a registered nurse by trade and training, writing and working on Wurundjeri Country, in Narrm (Melbourne, Australia). I write poetry in some of my spare time. Many of these poems have been proven to be bad poems. By this I mean that most of them have been rejected from major poetry journals two or three times, but here's the thing: they mean something to me, and I want to get them out there.
I write poems with a confessional inclination, and a keen sense of place. I am keenly aware of my privilege, and at times filled with self loathing. Yet I look to God alone for redemption, and God is my hope and light in the darkness. I write about life, but I write about death. In my professional life, I've seen all kinds of deaths from the traumatic to the peaceful to the personal, and I spend much time exploring death in my work.
Death and life are two sides of the same coin.
My influences are Charles Bukowski, Sylvia Plath, Alan Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, Luljeta Lleshanaku, and Semezdin Mehmedinović.
